Exploring Trauma and Faith

About Me

I am an Associate Professor of Religious Studies and Humanities Division Chair at the University of Pikeville. I am also a mom, yoga instructor, and survivor of sexual abuse.

My own experiences and conversations with those who have suffered childhood traumas in their lives, has led to a deep interest in questions about God, faith, and human vulnerability. As a result, I became deeply interested in Christian contemplative practices, embodied theology, and Christian mysticism as tools for healing.

For as long as I can recall, I have felt that the “God question” pursued me. Trying to make sense of who God is and how God is known (or not known) in the midst of horrific violation has been my life’s work. It has shaped my vocation. This work is lived, written, and woven throughout my scholarship and the courses that I teach.
